We are happy to present our new survey section. From time to time we will create a new survey about stevia, to collect your experiences with the natural sweetener. There will always be a news post when a new survey starts, that can be used for discussion on its comments section.
This one makes the start:
The first topic is the taste of stevia. As we all know it’s sweet but there is a slightly bitter aftertaste in my opinion, but that makes the taste really good. For me stevia is not just an alternative for sugar, but I even prefer its taste, especially in tea. As everybody has different opinions we would like to know what you think. Please take part in the survey and write about your experiences in the comments section.

Im using stevia for about a year now. I really like it, especially because of it’s taste. I’m not really having a problem with the calories of sugar but I just like the slightly different taste of stevia in my tea and coffe …

I like Stevia too, and I think it’s a good sweetener, even when I’m not a too big “low calorie” fan …

I started using stevia about 3 months ago because my last dr’s visit found my blood glucose level a little higher than normal.I have cut out the use of sugar and will use only stevia to see if this helps. I will update after next dr’s visit.ps I like the taste and the convienence of the small packets. David

I hate the taste of stevia and when they say it tastes sweeter than sugar I have to laugh. It’s disgusting! No more stevia for me!

Hey Mary, I understand you don’t like the the general taste, because everyone is different.
But you cannot really say that stevia isn’t sweeter than sugar. It’s many times sweeter, I think you cannot argue about that.

I have been using Stevia for more than 5 years. I think it is a wonderful alternative to sugar, especially if you are at all concerned with calories, blood sugar levels or even dental health. It is much more potent than cane sugar so you have to use it sparingly until you find the right amount for your palate.

I love Stevia. I am allergic to sugar (it causes depression) and my husband is trying to lose weight. The flavor is noticeable but not bad. I have passed gas daily while using it and wonder if that is a side effect for me or others. Any similar experiences?

Actually, I agree with Mary because I didn’t find Stevia sweeter than sugar at all. In fact, it didn’t even seem sweet; however, I found the flavor/aftertaste to be horrible. So much for Stevia…..my box will be given away to the first taker. :-)

A little dash of cinnamon in anything you bake with Stevia counteracts the aftertaste. My kids don’t even notice!

i have been using stevia for years and have had no bad side effects. i recieved my first bottle from a friend who said it was “bitter” i found out why, she was using it like sugar, waaaayyyy too much. i have weaned myself down to 1/2 of the itty bitty scoop, i have been using it to get myself off sugar as i have a real sweet tooth and it has really helped. when you have expectations before you try something new, you will undoubtably be disappointed. try not to compare it with what you are used to and see how it stacks up. i give stevia ( not truvia ) a thumbs up.

I did not care for the drops because of the after taste; however, I tried the powder & determined that I have just found a new sweetener.BTW I have only tried one brand of drops so I don’t want to bad mouth the drops until I have tasted more brands. The powder is great.

You have to acquire a taste to stevia, but use less and its not that bad. I am doing the 17 day diet plan and it is a great substitute to sugar.

I really like Stevia! I guess I have been using it for a year or longer now. I use other sweeteners when I forget to bring my own, and find the stevia is perfect for me. I use it in my tea, coffee, if I eat oatmeal, and so on. We have not baked with it yet, as we usually use apple sauce or bananas, but will try it one day. Some people find a bitter after taste in their coffee, others do not, that’s of people who tried it at my expense. Love it!! Oh and yes people try replacing your eggs in pancakes with a banana 1/2 medium banana smashed is equivalent to one egg, and it adds some sweetness to your pancakes if you are the type to add that optional sugar :) or for any sweet baking for that matter.

If you did not like the taste (like really sour), try another brand because I noticed that some brands are better than others. I guess it depends on how exactly it is being processed for consumption.

I also found that Stevia (PureVia) powder tasted horrible, but then a new brand, NatVia, came on the market here – I like it much better and will use it exclusively in future.
It seems some manufacturers can mess up anything?

I like Stevia for it’s ability to keep
my bood pressure in check,I never use
more then 2 packets a day……

I have used Stevia on and off for a while now, but was recently told I have type 2 diabetes–not severe, but because of that and the desire to lose some weight, I have eliminated refined sugar from my diet, and am using Stevia exclusively. I have had bad side effects from Aspartame and Sucralose. I agree that some Stevia is bitter, but that is due to using too much. The “Sweet Leaf” brand is excellent: one packet = 2 tsps. of sugar–no bitter aftertaste. I agree with Jackie, however, for it seems that increasing the amount of Stevia I use has led to increased intestinal gas and bloating. That is a problem I encountered with other artificial sweeteners–and especially with Truvia (which has xylitol). Any suggestions on how to minimize this side effect (short of discontinuing its use)?

For years, our government was anti stevia and finally,
they approve it along with aspartame, Splenda and fluoride that the EPA professionals have condemned for over 15 years. The FDA lists 93 symptoms of asp-artame poisoning but they tacitly approve it with their silence. See those 93 symptoms at: http://www.dorway.com Site was made by a man who died of aspartame poisoning, David O. Rietz. He lived 3 years
after he discovered that he was being poisoned. I use
little stevia but I have reason to be skeptical.

I PUT STEVIA IN SMOOTHIES OF YOGURT/STRAWBERRIES AND AFTER AWHILE NOTICED I WASN’T FEELING WELL AND THE ONLY THING I WAS DOING DIFFERENTLY WAS THE STEVIA SO I STOPPED IT AND THE SYMPTOMS DISAPPEARED SO I RARELY USE IT NOW.

Over the years I’ve tried different brands, powdered form and drops. I’ve always been dissapointed with the taste. I tried another brand recently in hopes that there’s been some improvement but wasted my money again. It may be sweeter but it’s bitter and doesn’t taste anything like sugar.

I tried Stevia several years ago and began to experience light headeness and dimensia. I researched on the internet and found a sit labeled bad drugs and it indicated that if you took certain blood pressure medication (diltizem) you could experience all the symtoms that I had. I quit taking the Stevia and returned to normal

I recently tried Stevia (liquid drops). I absolutely love it..tastes better than sugar and makes excellent lemonade with fresh squeezed lemons, ice, water and several drops of stevia.
I also use stevia to sweeten morning smoothies..
I am so glad to have this all natural sweetener available.
Aspartame, on the other hand, gives me a feeling of spaciness and conjestion in my head..I feel tense and restless and absolutely know when I’ve mistakenly eaten something with Aspartame because I inevitably get this unique side effect….Hate it!!

I have used Stevia for many years. I used to buy the powdered leaves at the health food store. Back then it was sweet, but did not totally dissolve in cold drinks and had a slight green taste to in. The new Truvia is wonderful to the taste buds! I have never used the chemical sweeteners, but my mom had type 2 diabetes, so I am aware of that possibility for myself. I love stevia!
