I actually couldn’t find any side effects of stevia. I use it for tea and coffe, not every day but often enough. To be onest I have no idea what kind of side effects I should expect. From what I read (even if I don’t think there is something significant), there would only be mutagenic or toxic effects and how should somebody at home see them? So what kind of side effetcs did you guys see?
Greetings Dav

My husband and I found the aftertaste really awful. We were hoping to replace regular sugar with Stevia in our morning coffee, but were really disappointed. I think we are going to have to learn to do without anything sweet in our coffee and stick to honey in our tea.

I found the after taste absolutely horrible which, as Barb said above, was disappointing as I was hoping to replace regular sugar. I used it on oatmeal and even added cream in an attempt to cover the flavor….didn’t work. I finally added real sugar which almost covered the taste. However, not long after the oatmeal, I got a terrific headache that I’ve had all day. Headache is the side effect that I get from any sweetener other than sugar, honey, or maple syrup. Given past experiences, I just have to wait for another 24 hours for the headache to go away. Now I’m hoping that I can find someone who would like to take the Stevia off my hands.

Benedril calmed the reaction but I will be careful to avoid stevia in the future

I had to get used to Stevia’s taste at first. Also, I found the less the better for me. I usually used it in my morning tea or oatmeal. Now, I am using another produce called Stevia Glycerite. It is very thick glycerin and I find I do not like it and it has a bad after taste. I will try to get another bottle that is not the thick glycerin and hope to enjoy it again.

I always found the after taste nasty too until someone pointed me to a different brand. I don’t experience any side affects but I do stick with a “Non-Bitter” type.

I fell pregnant the month I stopped taking stevia, after having been using it for more than a year and trying to fall pregnant for 10months (and proven fertile). It may be a coincident, but ironic when I found that it can be used as a form of contraception in Sth America, in the Amazon!
I wouldn’t be taking it if trying to fall pregnant.

Ive been using Stevia the last 3 years. Read the book ” The Miracle Of Stevia”. I played with it baking cookies and tested my friend who is diabetic by
having him eat my treats. It works for us.
I love it and have become very creative in baking with Stevia.

I have been searching for a sugar substitute for a few months as I’m reading bad things about Splenda.
I gave up eating sugar and lost 30 pounds over 90 days.
I think the aftertaste of stevia is a learned taste. Just like sugar, stevia has it’s own taste. That does not make it better or worse, just different which needs to be learned.

I’ve been using stevia for about 2 years and have noticed some pretty bad muscle pain lately. Not sure if it’s the stevia, but I should lay off for a while. I couldnt use splenda as I and some others I know developed overactive bladder from it. It is chemically prosessed with bleach, so it may not be the safest.

Hi sara, I think your muscle pain isn’t caused by stevia. I’ve never heard stevia associated with these kind of side effects, but as you said to be totally save, lay off for a while.

I drink a cup of stevia coffee on the weekends. I notice that I have (painless) watery stool (which is actually good for me since I have *a little constipation problem* on and off) after every consumption (about 4 hours after drink). I would like to ask if anyone else has this side effects? I have the testimonies of 2 persons who have this experience (one thinks it’s bad and never consume stevia product again and one thinks it’s good – same as me – and still consume it once in a while). BTW, I sell and use stevia products.

I have used Truvia brand stevia for about a year and to my knowledge no known side effects. I mainly sweeten tea and have used it on fresh fruit.
